Marina Bay Sands is Singapore's most recognisable building — a trio of towers crowned by the SkyPark, set against the Marina Bay waterfront. When Las Vegas Sands commissioned the illumination design, the task was to light a building that had already become an icon before it was finished.

The challenge of lighting a building this prominent is knowing when to hold back. The architecture, designed by Moshe Safdie, has a sculptural clarity that could easily be overwhelmed by theatrical lighting. The design approach respected the form — using light to reveal the structure rather than decorate it.

The tower facades were lit to emphasise their verticality and the distinctive curves of the SkyPark. The podium and public areas received layered lighting to support wayfinding and create atmosphere for the retail and entertainment precincts.

Marina Bay Sands is now one of the most photographed buildings in Asia. The illumination design plays its part quietly — giving the architecture presence after dark while never competing with the form that made it famous.
