Lighting a pair of towers to hold their place on the Kowloon skyline

The Twins is a pair of 22-storey commercial towers at the heart of Kowloon Bay — one of Hong Kong's most competitive business districts. When Nan Fung Group commissioned the illumination design, the objective was clear: to give the towers a distinctive identity that would hold its own against a skyline crowded with architectural statements.

The design challenge was not to add spectacle, but to reveal structure. The towers' interlocking massing — the reason for their name — provided the formal cues. The lighting concept emphasised the geometry of the buildings, using light to trace the edges and volumes that make the composition legible after dark.

The colour temperature and intensity were carefully calibrated to sit comfortably within Hong Kong's nocturnal context. Too warm, and the towers would feel dated; too cold, and they would disappear into the glare of neighbouring buildings.

The result is a lighting design that respects the architecture and the context. The Twins now register clearly against the Kowloon skyline — not by shouting, but by being precisely, quietly present.
